Corruption was more during Obasanjo Regime, Says Bakare

Senior Pastor of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has said that the bars of corruption were significantly raised during the 8-year tenure of  former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

The Convener of Save Nigeria Group stated this on Wednesday while delivering a lecture as the guest lecturer at the 10th Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture/Symposium, organised by the Ikejaa Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The event was held in Lagos and chaired by the former president of the court of appeal, Justice Ayo Salami  (retd.)

In his  speech, Bakare said Obasanjo raised the bar of corruption to an unacceptable and dangerous level.  

 

Bakare stated that the former president censored the media, influence judicial decisions and also victimised critics of his government.

 

The Pastor turned politician also said that Obasanjo tried all his best to seek for third term but when the agenda failed, he foisted  a sick person on the nation through a fraudulent elections.

 

He said Obasanjo’s supposed achievement in office had no significant impact on the people’s lives but only provided opportunity for  personal aggrandisement across government levels.

 

Salami at the occasion called for the separation of the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria from that of the Chairman of the National Judicial Council. and also said his suspension from the bench, which lasted till his retirement in 2013, and the events that followed were meant to humiliate him.
