PDP may soon cease to exist, says APC Chairman

The Interim Chairman of the All Progressive Congress party, Bisi Akande has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party will soon lose its control and relevance in both the  executive and legislative arms of government.

Akande disclosed this on Monday while having a meeting with the APC caucus in the House. Also  present at the meeting were former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu and governors of Imo, Oyo, Osun, Nassarawa, Kwara, Lagos and Kano State

The objective of the meeting was to give adequate support to its lawmakers in the lower chamber in the face of the battle for supremacy between the PDP and the APC in the National Assembly,

According to Akande, "We are dealing with a very desperate government but we are anxious to be with you. What you have done is commendable in the face of a barbaric government."

He said the party was relying on  the legislators to help the country stabilise as "the government does not know the difference between stability and politics of hatred."

Also speaking at the meeting, Tinubu urged the lawmakers not to disappoint the party, adding that the party's registration would soon commence.

He said,  "Don't look at the problems but offer hope by trying to rescue Nigeria. If you are comfortable and your neighbour or your brother is not, you have danger around.

Other speakers at the caucus meeting were Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif, Governors Rochas Okorocha, Tanko Almakura, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Abiola Ajimobi, Ibikunle Amosun, Babatunde Fashola, Rauf Aregbesola and the deputy governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

EPL: Chelsea Defeats Man City

In what appears to be the El-classico of the English Premier League, Chelsea has shown an extra ordinary strength and agility to defeat rival Man City on Monday. 

Man city suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at their home in Etihad Stadium, the first time City will lose this season.
 It was also the first time City had failed to score in a home league match since November 2010 as the Premier League's most potent attack, with 68 goals, was kept out by the best defence - the visitors have conceded just 20.

Branislav Ivanovic's solitary strike in the first half gave Chelsea a lead that eventually made them got a 3 points in the match.

Mourinho's masterplan was built on a solid defence, with Petr Cech not tested until the 73rd minute, clawing David Silva's free kick away from goal. 

City only managed three shots on target (half as many as Chelsea managed), and save for some dangerous crosses into the six-yard box, were limited to shots from range.

Road Accident: Seven Killed and others Injured in Jigawa

A road accident on Monday  at Karnaya Village in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa has led to the death of seven persons and four others  severely injured.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the accident involved an 18-seater commercial vehicle and a Sports Utility Vehicle.

An eyewitness, Malam Hussaini Danlami, told NAN that the two vehicles were moving in opposite directions, when they collided.

The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Malam Aminu Umar, who confirmed the incident, attributed the tragedy to dangerous overtaking.

“From the information made available to us, the accident was caused by dangerous overtaking,” he said

Umar said his officers had deposited the seven corpses at Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital, Dutse, adding that four other victims were being treated for injuries at the same hospital.

A car laden with explosives has went off in Baghdad leaving no fewer than 14 people dead and several others injured.

According to police, car bombs exploded in the Hurriya and Baladiyat districts of the capital, while two others went off in the nearby town of Mahmoudiya. 

Violence has increased in Iraq after withdrawal of US soldiers from the country.

According to UN reports, no fewer than 618 civilians and 115 members of the security forces were killed in attacks last month.

APC fires Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State over anti-party statements

The All  Progressive Congress (APC)  Nasarawa State chapter, has on Monday suspended the Deputy Governor of the State,  Damishi Luka-Barau, from the party.

The suspension was announced by the State Interim Chairman of APC, Mr Standly Buba in Lafia. Buba said the suspension was due to a statement credited to deputy governor concerning the order given to APC lawamakers in the National Assembly.

Luka-Bara suspension is coming after the interview he granted newsmen in Abuja,  faulting the decision of the National Executive members of the party that its lawmakers at the National Assembly should block all executive bill including the 2014 appropriation bill.

Buba condemned the interview Luka-Bara granted the press men in Abuja saying that he was going against the decision of the party that brought him into power.

The Interim chairman also stated that a committee has been set up to look into the matter and if found guilty necessary disciplinary action will  taken against the deputy governor.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor is on an official assignment to the United State of America

Nelson Mandela leaves $4 dollars estate to Staff, Schools, ANC and Family

Former South African President, and anti-apartheid leader,  Nelson Mandela   has willed his $4.1 million (aboutN688 million) estate to former staff, schools ,  the ruling African National Congress  and family members.

The 40-page will was read on Monday by the executor, Dikgang Moseneke in the presence of family members and friends.

 Mandela gave 50,000 rands (N750,000) to each of his former close. The will also made a provision of 100,000 rands (N1.5M) to each of the  four schools Mandela attended.

His modest estate includes an choice house in Johannesburg, a modest dwelling in his rural Eastern Cape home province and royalties from book sales, including his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom.

According to Moseneke, the estate would be split between three trusts set up by Mandela, including a family trust designed to provide for his more than 30 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mandela died  on December 5, 2013 at the ripe age of 95. More then 90 heads of state attended his burial service.

Policeman caught on video demanding dollars as bribe

A Youtube video footage has once again revealed the level of decadence and corruption among the Nigerian Police officers. 

In the video secretly filmed by one of the passenger, a police officer was caught demanding dollars as bribe from three men over alleged traffic offences.

In the 3-minute, 45-seconds video, the  AK-47-wielding policeman insisted on collecting dollars as bribe after several pleas that fell on dead ears. Repeated pleas from the passengers was met with stiff insistence on payment of dollar as bribe.  

The  policeman also  threatened to take the passenger to the police station for stiffer fine. 

Just five months ago, another policeman attached to the Onitsha Area Command, Anambra State, was seen in a footage demanding a bribe of N10, 000 from a motorist.

Nigerians are facing harrowing experience in the hands of this armed men. A lot have been forced to part with their hard earned money over little or no offense.

Gunmen Kill Newswatch Editor in Ikorodu, Lagos

Deputy Editor of Saturday Newswatch, Mr. Toyin Obadina has died of gun shot.  Obadina was shot in the stomach in Ikorodu area on his way home from office by gunmen. 

He was later rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where doctors battled to save his life through surgeries. 

According to reports, the armed men came in two Sport Utility Vehicles around 1am on Sunday morning, intercepted the deceased along Itoikin-Old Ijebu-Ode Road and shot at him before leaving the spot. 

The state police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP),confirmed the incidence and  said efforts were being made to arrest the suspects.

She said: "The DPO received a call informing him that Mr. Toyin Obadina (50 years), while driving a Toyota Yaris car with registration number AKD701CE, was attacked along Ijebu-ode by Hypo/Lucky Fibre junction.

However, the wife of the deceased, Bola told newsmen that her husband has done nothing wrong to warrant killing from armed men. 

Obadina, a deputy editor with Newswatch was survived by wife and three children.

Deputy Editor of Saturday Newswatch, Mr. Toyin Obadina has died of gun shot.  Obadina was shot in the stomach in Ikorodu area on his way home from office by gunmen.

Fire Outbreak at St. Nicholas hospital in Lagos

News has it that fire broke out  at popular St. Nicolas Hospital in Lagos Island. The fire incidence occurred in a room at the 9th floor of the hospital on Sunday.

According to reports, the fire caused by an electrical fault, which only lasted for one hour and was curtailed by the Firemen.

Speaking on the Incidence, the Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Razaq Fadipe, said the fire has been curtailed and  no life was lost in the incident.

He said, “We got a distress call around 6.07pm that there was a fire outbreak at the St. Nicholas Hospital and on getting there, we observed that smoke was billowing from a legal office on the 9th floor. The smoke was so thick that we had to use breathing apparatus to access the place.

“Fortunately, the hospital had firefighting equipment and water pump outlet so we deployed two trucks from Sari Iganmu and Onikan with 10,000 litres of water. We were able to put out the fire by 7.15pm.”

Sad News. Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Sunday possibly of an apparent drug overdose, law enforcement sources said.

Police said Hoffman, 46, was found on the bathroom floor and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators found two bags of what is believed to be heroin inside the fourth-floor apartment, law enforcement officials said.

Hoffmann made his name in the 1990s in films including Boogie Nights and the Big Lebowski, before winning the best actor Oscar for his 2005 portrayal of writer Truman Capote.

Throughout his career Hoffman featured in independent films as well as Hollywood blockbusters such as Mission Impossible III.

His latest role was in the Hunger Games series of films.

Hoffman's family called his death "tragic and sudden".

"We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone," they said in a statement on Sunday.
