Fresh incidence of violence between some Fulani herdsmen and Tiv farmers on Sunday at Adaka village in Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue State has been reported.

The Public Relations Officer of Benue State Police command, Mr Daniel Ezeala, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi that renewed fighting between farmers and herdsmen broke out in the early hours of Sunday.

In previous fracas, Fulani herdsman and Tiv farmers had engaged in fierce battle over the destruction of farms by cattle reared by the Fulani men, leading to destruction of properties and displacement of residents from their homes

Ezeala said, police have deployed officers to quell the fight in the local government and investigation to unravel the cause of fight is on going.

A NAN correspondent, who went to the area, reports that hundreds of displaced villagers were taking refuge in houses near the Makurdi/Naka Express Road, while some were seen under trees along the highway.

Fulani Herdsmen usually  graze their herd for food and along the way the herd destroy farm lands and crops which spark up fight from the farm owners.
