13 Passengers roasted to death in Delta State

Thirteen passengers, including children and women, were burnt beyond recognition in a bus accident which occurred in Effurun, Delta on Sunday.

Five other passengers also sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Based on reports,  the 18-seater Bus was coming from the PTI roundabout, but stopped to pick up a passenger who was allegedly carrying a jerrycan filled with petrol. In less than two minutes after the woman entered the bus, the jerrycan burst into flames.

According to one of the survivors,  Mr Martins Nwaowolo, only four passenger in the bus survived the accident.

However, the Delta Commissioner for Transport, Mr Ben Igbakpa, who visited the scene, said that it was wrong for people to be moving about with petrol.

He did, however, described the incident as unfortunate.
