90% of PHCN workers Have Been Paid - BPE

According to Nigerian News Agency, NAN, the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE)  had settled the gratuity and pensions of more than  90 per cent of  former workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The Head, Public Communications, Mr Chigbo Anichebe, said in a statement  that  a total of 43,375  of the 47,913 workers presented to the government at the beginning of the privatisation process have received their entitlement.

This figure represent more than 90% of the PHCN Staff.

Anichebe said it became imperative for the bureau to make the clarification because of a recent allegation by the National Union of Electricity Employees that 25, 000 former PHCN staff had yet to be paid.

"To effect the payment of the 43, 375 staff, the bureau has remitted N361,024,432,338.48 to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

I  believe the  present  government should be commended for going this  far. The rot in PHCN can only be tackle through privatisation.

Meanwhile, scores of Nigerian do not have electricity in their homes. Many have resorted into using generators, inverters and solar pabels to power their homes
