According to report from Daily Post, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has advised Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, to convince PDP members in the National Assembly to stop defecting to other political parties
Crisis in People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has seen its members defect to the other Political parties especially All Progressive Congress, APC.
Akpabio had stated this at the Government House, Uyo after Tambuwal paid him a courtesy visit on Monday.
In 2013, 37 People’s Democratic Party, PDP members of the House of representative defected to All Progressive Congress, APC after 5 PDP governors defectecd.
Akpabio worried by the crisis in PDP advised Tambuwal to "do everything humanly possible to avoid further defection of PDP members in the National Assembly. Even those that have defected, we want to implore you to do your best to convince them to come back because the umbrella is not torn. The umbrella can accommodate them and can still cover them very well.”
He said, “The turnover in the National Assembly does not allow for proper enactment of laws and it wipes out experience and this is of concern to the governors. I recall in 2007 when we came in, only 17 members who were there in 2003 made it back.
In response, the Speaker said the governor has done a good work and the visit was to appreciate and commend his effort.
