Borno State Governor's Convoy Stoned by Youths.

The convoy of Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima was attacked and stoned by irate youths in Maiduiguri.

The convoy was petted with stones, sands and sachets of water by some angry youths believed to be political thugs.

Shettima's spokesman, Isa Gusau, said that "hired political thugs and youths brought from other sates organised the attack".

According to an eyewitness account, the governor's convoy which was heading towards the direction of the Maiduguri International Airport, ran into a mob of young men, who suddenly started chanting antagonistic songs and began to haul stones, sands and sachets of water directly at the governor's vehicle.

"It took the intervention of policemen of the nearby Police Crack Squad to disperse the angry youths by releasing canisters of tear gas at the mob" an eye witness said.

The spokesman to the governor in his response, said it took the maturity of the governor to control his security details from firing at the hoodlums who were bent on achieving the dastardly act of their principals.
