The President Goodluck Jonathan has on Thursday said that a new list of ministerial nominees is to be sent to the National Assembly upon resumption. This is almost four months after he sacked nine ministers in his cabinet.
Jonathan stated this at a meeting yesterday in Abuja with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)chieftains from the North-west geopolitical zone. However, he did not give details on those he had selected to fill the vacancies in his cabinet.
During the meeting thanked the zonal party chiefs, led by Haliru Bello for the visit and assured them that despite the crisis in the party, PDP would remain the dominant party in Nigeria.
He sought for collective efforts at tackling the various challenges in the northern part of the country including insecurity and desert encroachment.
In September, 2013, Jonathan sacked nine ministers in his cabinet. The sacked ministers were Prof. Ita Okon Bassey Ewa (Science and Technology); Ms. Ama Pepple (Housing and Urban Development); Mrs. Hadiza Ibrahim Mailafa (Environment), Dr. Shamsudden Usman (National Planning); Prof Ruqayyatu Rufa’i (Education);and Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru (Foreign Affairs).
