Violence at another Save Rivers Movement Rally

The Save Rivers Movement has suffered another set back in Rivers. A rally organised by the movement on Sunday  in Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State was disrupted by hoodlums and gunmen.

Hoodlums carrying different weapons unleashed attacks on members as soon as they arrive the venue of the rally, inflicting wounds and injuries on anyone at sight. . Press men including Channels Television crew were equally attacked.

A rally organised by the Save Rivers Movement last Sunday at the Rivers State College of Arts and Science in Rumuola was disrupted by officer of Rivers State Police command under the direct order of the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu.


Senator Magnus Abe of the national assembly was shot in the incident.

In his response,  the President of the Save Rivers Movement, Mr Charles Aholu, said the movement obtained permission and clearance from the Police command prior to the event. and  insisted that the association is a non-governmental organisation formed to promote good governance, transparency, accountability and judicial practices.
