2014 Budget: Ministry of Education to use N3 billion for travel allowances and trainings

Supervising Minister of Education, Nelson Wike
The Federal  Ministry of Education has budgeted a staggering N1 billion  for travel allowances and N2 biliion for staff training in 2014.

While presenting the ministry's budget to the house committee on education, the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike  revealed  that N1 billion will be used to cater for travel allowances by the ministry.

In his response, the Chairman, House committee on  education, Comrade Aminu Suleiman described the budgetary proposal of N1 billion for travelling allowances  as being ridiculous and as a "clear case of jamboree".

The ministry also budgeted N2 billion for staff training and retraining. Its preposterous that a key ministry that has its universities shut for more that six months in 2013 can budget such a huge amount for frivolities.

One wonders the total staff strength of the ministry to warrant N1 billion for travelling allowance and N2 billion for staff training. In the case of this frivolities, N3 billion can be used to purchase educational and library materials  which would be distributed to institution of learning.

This again shows the deep-rooted corruption in federal government ministries, parastatals and agencies
