Elections in Osun, Ekiti will be peaceful - IG

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mohammed Abubakar has on Tuesday promised a hitch-free and peaceful gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun States.

The Police chief in Abuja stated this  during the courtesy visit of the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle at the Force Headquarters. He said the Nigeria police will ensure peace during the elections adding that 160,000 police officers are presently receiving trainings across the country.

Abubakar said, “The officers are receiving specialised training on electoral laws, election security, crowd control skills, anti-riot operations, covert intelligence operations and general principles of democratic policing’’ .


On his part, the US Ambassador promised increased collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in the area of capacity building and other security related matters, promising that the US government was committed to the growth and success of Nigeria’s democracy and economy

Gubernatorial elections in Ekiti state will be conducted on the 21st of  June 2014, while the Osun Governorship election will hold August 9 2014
