Microsoft names Satya Nadella as new CEO

Software giant, Microsoft has named Indian-born Satya Nadella as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Satya will be replacing Steve Ballmer who has held the position since 2000 when the founder, Bill Gates resigned from running the company.

He is the third Chief Executive Officer of the global software company. Nadella joined the 39-year old company in 1992 and rose through rank and file to become the CEO.

He has degrees in Electronics, Computer Science and Business Administration.

Prior to his new appointment, the 22-year old Microsoft  veteran was the head of Cloud and Enterprise, which builds and runs the firm's computing platforms and developer tools.

Meanwhile, Bill Gates will also be resigning as the chairman of the company he founded to be the Chief Technolgy Adviser, a role that includes working with the product development teams



Nadella is coming at a time Microsoft is facing dwindling product sales and stiff competition from rival technology giants (Apple and Google). His main job will be to accelerate innovative products to the market.

Amongst the top contender with Nadella were the boss of car giant Ford,Alan Mulally, and Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop
