Politics in Nigeria is war with bloodshed —Abdul-Hammed

GUEST speaker at the 11th Annual Ramadan Lecture of the Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN), Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed has said that politics in Nigeria is war with bloodshed because people want to get to political offices by whatever means.

Abdul-Hameed stated this on Sunday while delivering a paper entitled: “Public Trust, Accountability and Purposeful Governance in Nigeria” at MAN Islamic Centre, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Abdul-Hameed lamented that some leaders in Nigeria get to political offices  and then do it their own way without considering the majority.

“Most governments are run with the end-justifying-the-means-principles. Political leaders in Nigeria must be reminded that leadership is a sacred trust bestowed upon a leader that must be utilised for the common welfare of all. Without sympathy and empathy, you cannot be a good leader. Some of our leaders do not possess leadership skills,” he added.

According to the guest speaker, a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering at the  Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, “a good government must be accountable, transparent, participatory and credible.”

He, therefore, called for sincerity and the strengthening of bodies meant to fight corruption.
The host governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who at the occasion, presented an 18-seater bus to MAN also urged people to fear God.

Special Guest of Honour, Governor, Kwara State, Dr Abdul Fattah Ahmed appealed to all Muslims to rise up and be committed to confronting the challenges facing Muslims globally. “The most criticised religion is Islam,” Ahmed said.
