A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered members of the House of |Representatives not to change leadership of the legislative body, pending the hearing of a suit filed by the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP)PDP has taken to court to challenge, stop and refrain the House of Representative from changing its leaders following the defection of 37 lawmakers to All Progressive Congress, APC.
PDP also asked the court to determine whether the defected 37 lawmakers can validly function as members of the House of Representatives.
The court on Monday, presided over by Justice Adeniyi Ademola, ordered members of the House of |Representatives to maintain status quo and not take any step to change its leaders.
Counsel to PDP, Yunus Usman, SAN prayed the court to hear his motion for interlocutory injunction first while counsel to the defendants asked the court to commence proceedings with their preliminary objections.
The court has fixed February 3 for the next hearing of the case.
Meanwhile, APC after getting a simple majority, is agitating that its members in the legislative body take over the leadership of the house.
