2015 Elections will be marred with violence - El-Rufai

Former FCT Minister, Nasir El-rufai
The former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has warned that the 2015 general election to be conducted by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may be marred with violence and possibly resulted into loss of lives and properties.

El-rufai said this yesterday in Abuja while speaking at the Transformed to Transform (The T2T Nigeria) Conference and Career Fair, a leadership and empowerment initiative for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

He warned that violence can only be averted if INEC and Security agencies conduct a free and fair elections in 2015. The former minister of FCT, accused the Attahiru Jega-led electoral commission and security agencies of ineptitude and lack of capacity to organise a credible elections in 2015, predicting a disastrous outcome if those involved did not act professionally.

“I have no confidence in the level of preparedness of the INEC, security agencies and others to conduct elections based on the experience of the other elections they have conducted so far, but they have the time to clear their act. It’s left to them.”

El-fufai further stated that the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) will be unwilling to release power but the only solution to wrestle power from the party will be possibly through violence.
“This is what caused problems in the 2011 elections that we had post-elections violence. I see the same thing happening in 2015 unless elections are free and fair, unless INEC cleans up its act and organises free and fair elections, there will be violence.

Speaking to the youths, El-fufai said the youths have been neglected in the affairs of the country even though they account for 70 percent of the population. He admonished the country leaders to engage the youths for a better future.

Also present at the conference was the former minister of education under Obasanjo administration, Dr Oby Ezekwesili. Ezekwesili tasked the present government to fight corruption and make Nigerians enjoy the dividends of democracy
