South Sudan: More than 200 die while fleeing fighting

More than 200 people including women and children have met their untimely death while fleeing fighting in South Sudan.

According to a South Sudanese army spokesperson, Col. Philip Aguer, the deceased drowned when an overloaded ferry overturned on a river.

The accident happened Saturday on the White River near Malakal in the northeast of the country.

The passengers of the ill-fated boat were mainly civilians and only two persona survived the accident, said Col. Aguer.
The relatively young, oil-rich country erupted into violence when rebels loyal to the ex-Vice-President,
 Riek Machar tried to stage a coup. The rebels continues to fight the government forces plunging the country to a likely civil war.

According to the U.N, more than 350,000 people have been dispaced and rendered homeless, causing serious humanitarian crisis
