The dreaded militant group, Boko Haram has on Wednesday night launched an attack on a police station in Banki town, Borno State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday. According to a resident of the town, the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday and the attackers rode on motorcycles, Hilux vehicles and used sophisticated weapons for the operation.
"They drove from the bush around 02:00 on motorcycles and Hilux vehicles and carried sophisticated weapons to attack the police station., he said.
Policemen on duty at the station tried to engage the gunmen in a shootout, but fled after realising the gunmen had superior weapons. The attackers also raided homes and killed some residents of the town before escaping with their loot.
The Commissioner of Police in Maiduguri, Alhaji Lawal Tanko, confirmed the attack by a suspected Boko Haram attack on a police station in Banki town.
He said, "The police station in the town was partially affected. I lost an officer and some of my men sustained injuries".
The police has not arrested anyone in connection with the attack.
