Former Sokoto State Governor, Bafarawa defects from APC to PDP

 Attahiru Bafarawa
Former Governor of Sokoto State,  Attahiru Bafarawa has on Saturday defected from All Progressive Party to Peoples Democratic Party.

The defection was announced by the Media Assistant to Bafarawa, Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi in Sokoto.

The decision to defect came after a closed door meeting  between former Sokoto State governor Attahiru Bafarawa and his former Kano State counterpart Ibrahim Shekarau.

The Media Assistant said the meeting was also attended by the supporters of Mr. Bafarawa in the three parties that merged to form the APC.

According to Mr. Dingyadi, the leaders of the former governor’s faction of the APC were asked to go back to the 23 local government areas in the state for further consultation.

Attahiru Bafarawa was a two-time governor of Sokoto state and also presidential aspirant of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.
The State Secretary of the Gov. Aliyu Wamakko’s faction of the APC, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, told newsmen  that it was a welcome development.

“It is a good omen for the APC in Sokoto state and at the national level. APC will now be stronger and united.

“Bafarawa is afraid of Wamakko. He had since been working for PDP. Only his body was in APC, but his heart was already in the PDP,’’ Mr. Aliyu, who is also the Sokoto Health Commissioner, said.

Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State defected from PDP to APC in 2013.

It's an irony that ex-political officer holders are always seeking relevance in politics despite being out of office. Attahiru Bafarawa is one of them.
